Codex Wenk'al

In the fall of 2010, Maya Elder and Daykeeper Hunbatz Men honored my teacher and I with two photo-copies of The Codex Wenk'al. Because I have been working with this sacred text for some time now, I thought it would be appropriate to address it on this website.

The Codex Wenk'al is a 13 page, two-sided manuscript that was originally painted on paper made from glazed tree bark. The full name of this sacred text, as dictated by Hunbatz Men, is The Codex of The Tzolk'in of Wenk'al; Sacred Calendar, Adjustor of the Cycles of Time. The pilgrimage represented in this codex is indicative of the journey that all of mankind must endure. Both physically and spiritually applicable, the glyphic scripture acts as a guide to our personal journeys of self discovery. It shows us that through ceremony and prayer we can find our inner truths, and in doing so heighten our awareness of spirit's presence. It teaches us that in accepting guidance from spirit, the cosmos, and the tools presented to us, we can walk the path of knowledge and come forth anew; rebirthed in transformation.

The drawings on this page are only reproductions of some of the codex imagery. The reason I chose not to include any actual photographs or scans of the document is because this sacred text must be viewed with reverence, and only be opened in ceremony.
